"Yadda yadda yadda."
They never said that.
What people say
"Yadda yadda yadda."
What was actually said
"Yada yada yada." Marcy, George Costanza — Seinfeld: "The Yada Yada" (24 April 1997)
Why it stuck
Seinfeld popularised the phrase with a single "d." Merriam-Webster added "yada yada" to the dictionary in that spelling. "Yadda yadda" is the post-Seinfeld orthographic drift.
Lenny Bruce used "yada yada" in routines in the 1960s. Seinfeld picked it up and the dictionary followed.
