"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in."

They never said that.

What people say
"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in."
What was actually said
"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in." Michael Corleone — The Godfather Part III (1990)

Why it stuck

The line is correct — but it is not from The Godfather (1972). It is from Part III, generally considered the weakest of the trilogy, and gets pinned on Brando's Don Corleone in casual conversation.

Al Pacino delivered it. Brando had been dead for four years by the time the film premiered.
