"Round young virgin."

That isn't the lyric.

What you hear
"Round young virgin."
What's actually sung
"Round yon virgin." Silent Night — Franz Gruber / traditional (1818)

Why the ear defaults

"Yon" (archaic for "that") has dropped out of modern English outside Christmas carols. Children parse it as an adjective — round, young, virgin — which is grammatically parallel.
