“I am truely sorry.”
Spelling Entry 1360 / 1605 60-second read
Truly vs. Truely
The E disappears when adding -LY.
The comparisoni
“I am truly sorry — TRULY drops the E. The base TRUE keeps it; the adverb does not.”
The ruleii
¶
TRULY only.
Most adjectives ending in silent -E keep it before -LY (sincere → sincerely). TRUE is the standout exception: TRULY. Same goes for DUE → DULY, WHOLE → WHOLLY (with two Ls). Memorise the irregulars.
Memory aidiii
Remember it like this
Drop the E from true.
